Officer, Pete Llanes conducted the meeting.
In this meeting we dealt with some issues from the June meeting.
Officer Llanes looked into the Campbell Drive resident’s complaints from
the June meeting. One was concerning a neighbor parking numerous cars on their
dead end street taking up many of the parking spaces and doing mechanical and
body work on them. Officer Llanes determined that all of the cars were registered
to the same person who is a Campbell Drive resident.
Concerns regarding a huge pick up truck racing up and down the street –
Pick up trucks are legal but racing is not.
Another attendee complained about Mr. Rincon parking and repairing automobiles
on the street Per Officer Llanes, Mr. Rincon has a license as a mobile auto
repair business and as long as he has permission from the neighbors he can park
all the cars he wants there.
One attendee complained about a neighbor parking his car on the street beside
his home for a week or more before moving it. This prevents the owner from pulling
up his car up to unload groceries or wash his car. Per Officer Llanes, the neighbor
is not breaking any law.
There was a long discussion concerning homes with fences and walls exceeding
the legal height limit of six feet. This is another gray area. The Department
of Building & Safety does not drive around the neighborhood looking for
violations. They only respond if called.
During the last meeting someone asked for clarification on whether the Mar Vista
Gardens was purchased by UCLA – They were not!The topic of punishment
for tagging was brought up. If the taggers are not caught in the act of tagging,
the officers cannot do anything.
Officer Llanes advised us that the Gang Unit is working to identify some youths
committing crimes in the Marcasel area. Recently an Hispanic family with teens
moved into the Marcasel area from Oakwood. When friends from the old neighborhood
come to visit tagging and stealing from people and residences takes place.
The police have a system in place whereby they can mail out notices to residents
in a particular area to communicate with them on matters such as crimes that
are taking place in their area.
If a car alarm goes off and continues for at least 45 minutes, the vehicle can
be impounded.
Kinston in Culver is a hang out for gang members who continue to go out into
neighborhoods and commit crimes.
Three people were shot at 5042 Slauson. Two were killed and one survived. This
was a matter of non-gang members being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Another man was killed at 4816 Slauson.
There will not be a police meeting in August as Officer Llanes will be on vacation
from July 24th through August 2nd. Senior Lead Officer, Anthony Vasquez will
be the officer for A27, our area, while he is away.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Brier
