A violent shooting crime took place at 11921 Jefferson Blvd. The shooter drove
by the address once without incident, however, the second time around approximately
12-15 shots were fired at the victim who was hit three to four times. Luckily
none of the wounds were life threatening.
Also, within the last week, shots were fired on Bray at Inglewood. As of the
January meeting, no further details were available.
A white male, who does not live in this area and has no criminal record, broke
out windows in a couple of homes in the 3946 East Blvd. area. At approximately
2:00 a.m. someone near the home phoned the police and the man was arrested and
charged with felony vandalism.
Jeffery Dougherty (sp) is in custody for a burglary that took place two years
ago on Admiral Street (just west of Centinela).
Danny, a problem neighbor of Joe and Betty, was seen the week before Christmas
carrying an electric drill. He stays at a home across from Joe and Betty as
well as his aunt’s house. Officer Llanes commented that unless
dope is being sold or property stolen, the police cannot do anything.
Ula reported graffiti at the Payless shoe store. She spoke to the owner and gave him the phone number for graffiti paint out. Ula mentioned there is a Neighborhood Watch booklet that contains all of the city resource phone numbers. She will share it with meeting attendees at the February meeting.
Officer Llanes told meeting attendees if they hear or see something related
to crime in the neighborhood and want to inquire about it to call him and he
will speak to a detective to get the details and phone them back. He also mentioned
that there is a way to E-Mail pictures of graffiti to him. Just send it as an
attachment to a regular E-Mail. Be sure to include the location and a description
of the tagger, if available.
The Captain is asking senior lead officers to work approximately twice a month
outside of the Pacific Division area. He also wants 75percent of the work to
be done by the community and 25% to be done by the officers.
Mary Anderson, who is running for the Del Rey Neighborhood Council Public Safety
Committee position vacated by Lillian Jenkins, introduced herself to the meeting
attendees. A nominations and candidate’s forum, where those
running for positions on the Del Rey Neighborhood Council can state their goals
and visions for the community, will be held between the hours of 11:00 and 1:00
p.m. at the Braddock Elementary School on Saturday, January 21st. Each candidate
has three minutes to state their goals and vision. Voting takes place between
the hours of 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. A Board of Directors meeting
will be held on Thursday evening.
The Del Rey Neighborhood Council receives $12,500.00 quarterly from the city
of Los Angeles to use for neighborhood improvement projects such as schools
and beautification.
The boundaries of the Del Rey Neighborhood Council and Del Rey Homeowners &
Neighbors Association are identical.
A meeting
attendee asked Officer Llanes the distance a car parked on the street must be
driven to avoid a ticket. He replied it must be driven a considerable distance.
Another
attendee asked where to report a car that has smoking exhaust. Officer Llanes
recommended taking down the license number and phoning the AQMD at 311 with
the location and license number.
Several
meeting attendees commented they saw Sgt. Beacham on TV taking part in a South
Central Los Angeles crime related incident.
Community based police meetings take place the second Wednesday of the month.
Wednesday, February 8th, is the next meeting date.
